Best practice management

The Kangaroo Management Taskforce believes that the best way to design, develop and implement Best Practice Management of kangaroo populations must involve working with all key stakeholders. In particular co-design must include Aboriginal Communities and incorporating their aspirations and Traditional Ecological Knowledge.

The KMT is advocating for an improved supply chain of Culturally Safe kangaroo meat to regional Aboriginal communities which have identified issues in accessing this food that has sustained them for tens of thousands of years.

In 2020 Western Local Land Services commissioned the development of Options for Integrated Kangaroo Management in the Western region which outlines how kangaroos can practically be managed within the current regulatory framework.

A shorter, summary document of the Best Practice guidelines can be found here.
